Advance Directives Education for Texans

Presented by Morgan O’Brien, RN, CHPN
Produced in Texas

Clear, professional guidance to help individuals, families, and healthcare teams better understand Texas advance directives.

Advance directives can feel overwhelming, especially when legal language and medical decisions intersect. Morgan O’Brien, RN, CHPN, helps simplify the process through clear, professional education created specifically for Texans. With years of experience in advanced illness care and hospice nursing, Morgan has developed video resources that explain the purpose of the Texas advance directives and how to complete them properly using the free state-provided forms.

The educational videos are designed for the public, patients and families, and a wide range of healthcare and educational organizations across Texas.

About Morgan O’Brien, RN, CHPN

Morgan O’Brien is a Certified Hospice Palliative Nurse working in Texas.

After many years of working directly with patients and families facing serious illness, Morgan saw a recurring problem: many people simply did not understand advance directives, what they mean, or how to complete them. At the same time, many Texans were unaware that the official forms are available free through the State of Texas.

That gap in understanding became the foundation for this work.

Morgan created a series of educational videos to help Texans better understand the advance directive documents, how they function, and how to properly complete them. His goal is to make this important information more accessible to individuals, families, healthcare workers, and organizations statewide.

Why This Matters

Advance directives should not be confusing or inaccessible.

For many Texans, advance directives feel intimidating because the forms contain legal and medical language that can be difficult to navigate. As a result, people often delay important planning or assume they must hire an attorney just to complete documents that are already available for free from the State of Texas.

Our work addresses that gap through clear, professional education.

Our videos are designed to help people understand what these documents are, when they matter, and how to complete them with greater confidence.
